The winning ticket!

Absolutely hilarious! I got talked into entering a raffle as I left the monster book sale at the Bridgetown Freemason’s Hall this morning, despite the fact that the first prize (only prize!) was one that would be no use to me. But I figured, what’s the chance? and bought a single $2 ticket just to make a contribution.

Bugger me if I didn’t get a phone call two hours later saying “you’re the winner”! But what on earth was I going to do with a trailer load of wood?!

The concept of a wood raffle is a completely new one to me – wood fires are far from necessary in Geraldton. But since arriving in Bridgetown I could swear this is perhaps the most valuable currency in the town, from the number of wood raffles I’ve noted. Never mind the humble chook!

Anyway, so I thanked them very much and suggested that perhaps they could re-draw so it could go to someone who could use it…

I love Bridgetown. 🙂
